In the heart of the Saguenay fjord, a kingdom to discover
Tucked in the hollow of a magnificent valley, nestled in the natural bay of the confines of the St. Jean River and the majestic fjord of the Saguenay, Anse-Saint-Jean displays its charms between capes that preside over a splendid view.
It was here in 1668 that Father Beaulieu, wintering with the Montagnais and Micmac natives, had a chapel built, though today it no longer exists.
The village offers a variety of activities: panoramic vistas, sailing in the harbour, kayaking in the ocean, short and long hikes along the capes of the Saguenay Park overlooking the fjord, horseback riding, salmon, trout, and smelt fishing, a microbrewery, and in October, an art symposium (Villages en couleurs).
From the incredible panoramic lookouts, to the Great Falls, which can be seen from east of the village, to the White Mountains (13 km return), many attractions make the trip worthwhile.
In wintertime, take advantage of cross-country skiing in the park, alpine skiing on Mount Edouard, and ice fishing on the fjord.
