An astonishing concentration of old stone houses

Calixa-Lavallée was named in honor of the musician, born here in 1842, who composed the music of Canada’s national anthem.

Situated on the rich agricultural plain downstream from Montréal, Calixa-Lavallée is representative of land occupation from the 17th century to the mid-1800s with several old farm ensembles of great interest.

The Rang de la Beauce presents an exceptional concentration of very well conserved stone houses from the 18th century. The parish block is an important hub around which all social life is structured. The Sainte-Théodosie stone church, built in 1890 by architect Victor Roy, can be admired here.

The surrounding countryside is well suited to cycling tourism with its shaded roads and local products. In summer, the municipal park is a perfect spot to pause and let the tranquility sink in.
