A network of authentic heritage villages, located in remarkable landscapes
All Rights Reserved, 1998 / 2012, Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec
Situated on the Chemin du Roy (the first road in New France, opened in 1737), along the St. Lawrence River near Trois-Rivières, Champlain (named in honor of the founder of New France) is one of the oldest settlements in Québec.
In the 19th century, it also became a resort destination, from which large ships passing in the shipping channel can be admired. It was also home to sailors, and has a wharf where you can picnic..
The village offers more than 200 buildings of heritage interest, including the imposing church, classified as an historic monument, which contains several paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The area around the church presents beautiful architectural specimens. The municipality also buried its electrical wires here. The Maison Chartier, dating from 1835, was formerly a mail relay station between Trois-Rivières and Quebec City..
