A Seigneury with 370 years of history

 

 

Located along the Chemin du Roy on the St. Lawrence north shore about 60 kilometres from Québec City, Deschambault overlooks the St. Lawrence from Cap Lauzon.   Inhabited since 1674, the village offers an exceptional collection of traditional stone and wood buildings, many of which are classified historical, a cafe-art gallery, good restaurants and an antique store.

 

The cape gives a view of the dangerous rapids that stopped Jacques Cartier in 1535 and surprised Champlain in 1603, as well as Îlot Richelieu, which became a fur trading post in 1633. A magnificent collection of early 19th century heritage buildings are clustered here.  A stairway provides access to the river shore.  

 

West of the village (5 km), the Moulin de la Chevrotière is a harmonious whole with it small mill (1767) and large stone mill (1802).

Deschambault-Grondines is one of the oldest villages of Quebec and joined the Association in 1998.
