Loyalist architecture in a pretty valley

Frelighsburg, a village of art, heritage and agriculture, is nestled in a pleasant valley on the banks of the Rivière aux Brochets (Pike River).

The 1839 mill is still standing. Abram Freligh, a New Yorker of German origin, gave his name to the village. Located near the American border, it displays an extensive, well-preserved built heritage of Loyalist influence, mixing brick and wood construction.

Highlights include the restored Anglican church (1880), Catholic church (1885) and presbytery (1887), a convent (1914) and the old Joseph Lansberg general store (1879).

In spring, blossoming apple orchards put on a dazzling show, while autumn is a time for apple picking and making delicious cider, including the famous ice cider. Not far from there, Mount Pinacle towers over the surrounding landscape.

Frelighsburg is part of the Chemin des Cantons, a tourist road with  signage that crosses the Eastern Townships allowing for the discovery of our patrimony's architecture. Frelighsburg is one of the villages of that tour
