A historic fishing harbour in the kingdom of the lobster
Home
A lacework of sand embroidered in the ocean, this archipelago resembles none other. It is formed of a dozen small islands, six of which are linked by nearly 100 km of dunes. The golden sand blends with the red of the cliffs, the blue-green of the sea and lagoons, and vibrantly colored houses scattered without fencing at the whim of the landscape and the wind. Fishing (lobster, crab, and scallops) is the main livelihood.
Île du Havre-Aubert is the largest and oldest island with its Amerindian archeological sites and the historic La Grave quarter with its collection of fishing buildings along a thin strip of land, an aquarium, a museum of the sea, cafés and boutiques.
The immense beach is the setting of an annual sand castle contest. A ferry runs to the small and exotic Île d’Entrée, which is visited on foot..
The panoramic road that crosses the archipelago passes typical architectural ensembles and deserted beaches as far as the eye can see. Fresh air and a change of scene are guaranteed.
