At the heart of a crater, a spectacular panorama
LES ÉBOULEMENTS / SAINT-JOSEPH-DE-LA-RIVE
At the heart of a meteor crater 100 km wide, Les Éboulements (named for a landslide following the earthquake of 1663) offers visitors several art galleries and inns along with one of the most spectacular panoramas in Québec.
Perched 200 metres above the St. Lawrence River, it overlooks passing ocean-going ships, the Charlevoix capes, the Appalachian plateau and Île aux Coudres..
You can visit the seigniorial mill, built in 1790 and situated above a 30-metre waterfall. A small little-known road plunges towards Cap-aux-Oies. Another road leads down to Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, which extends along a bay between sea and mountain, giving a striking view with its perspectives and enormity.
A vacation destination already popular in 1900, the village offers a maritime interpretation centre and workshop devoted to schooners, the Saint-Gilles handmade paper factory and workshop that makes Charlevoix figurines called santons.
