Select resort with a whiff of the open ocean
Situated near the splendid Reford Gardens, a gateway to the Gaspé overlooking a seascape of superb sunsets, Métis-sur-Mer was a well known resort for English aristocrats in the 19th century.
They built opulent villas with remarkable overall architecture; three chapels reflect the cultural diversity.
Founded by Scots in 1850, Petit-Métis became a municipality in 1897, then changed its name to Métis-sur-Mer (Metis Beach). The eastern part of Métis-sur-Mer is called Les Boules. This name dates from 1831, referring to presence on the beach of several boulders, large rocks released by the glaciers and polished by the waves.
Les Boules and Métis-sur-Mer were amalgamated in 2002 under the name Métis-sur-Mer.
