A distinguished shipyard
Saint-Laurent was founded in 1679 under the name Saint-Paul. It hugs the waterfront around a marine park that includes a small marina, wharf, picnic site and workshop for building historic flat-bottomed boats.
From here, you can admire huge ocean liners and small sailboats make their way along the St. Lawrence ship channel, and on the horizon, the profile of the Appalachians.
The village features beautiful groupings of traditional houses, some of which are classified, and a church dating from 1860, accompanied by a presbytery, convent, and a little farther on, a processional chapel. At the exit of the village, at the foot of a small waterfall, an old mill from 1715 has become a restaurant. Nearby, the golf club gives a magnificent view of the river.
Saint-Laurent is an important farming centre: You can pick or buy fruits and vegetables here.
