A remarkable site on the banks of a salmon river
Home
Saint-Pacôme’s charm stems from its topography. Set back from the agricultural plain bordering the St. Lawrence, it hugs the banks of the Rivière Ouelle at the edge of the Appalachian mountains. A heritage walking trail with information panels leads to the village’s most beautiful buildings.
Salmon swim upriver to the gorges above the village, where fishermen come to catch them. You can walk along a trail here and see salmon leaping amid the impressive landscape.
The Côte Norbert road leads to a lookout with an exceptional panoramic view of the village below, the river meandering through farmers’ fields and across the 30-kilometre wide St Lawrence to Île-aux-Coudres and, on the north shore, Baie Saint-Paul and the Laurentians. The sun plays with the clouds above the river, creating sheets of dancing light in perpetual motion.
