A remarkable site on the banks of a salmon river
The secret of Saint-Pacôme's charm lies in the interplay between the village and its topography. Located off of farming fields alongside the Saint Lawrence, Saint-Pacôme is flanked by the banks of Rivière-Ouelle and a marine terrasse formed by the melting of glaciers thousands of years ago. Salmon can be seen swimming all the way up the winding river to the village, where they can be fished. These riverbanks are also an ideal path for a bike ride where you can enjoy the impressive landscape.
The magnificent King family estate stretches to the river’s edge and serves today as a large and beautiful garden. It was the King ancestors who contributed in large part to the village lumber industry and hence, to Saint-Pâcome’s property.
In front of the church, follow along the road of Côte-Norbert, which leads to the Côte-des-Chats hilltop where a belvedere affords an exceptional panoramic view of the St- Lawrence plains. Admire the village below, and the river as it meanders first through the farmers’ fields to Ouelle river, and then across the thirty-kilometre wide river and the island of Île-aux-Coudres, and on to Saint-Paul Bay on the north bank. Notice how the light plays off the clouds above the river, creating a shimmer of dancing motifs.
At the top of Domaine Street (Rue du Domaine), a raspberry farmers’ field offers a variety of delicious local beverages made from raspberries and blueberries.
A few kilometres from the village is Rivière-Ouelle quay. At the tip of Anse des Mercier bay, the quay includes a small beach and an inimitable view of the Charlevoix capes.
Enjoy a visit in a village where you wil find people proud of their history and enjoy the fantastic view of the valley offered by our unique location
