An artists' rendez-vous on the shores of the Richelieu River
Set delicately on the banks of the Richelieu River, this village recalls our French roots with its gentle farmland, traditional houses and the events that it has witnessed. The imposing church with its twin steeples dates from 1914, while the presbytery goes back to 1882.
Moroever, a father of Canadian Confederation in 1867, Sir Georges-Étienne Cartier, was born here. A small ferry links the village to Saint-Denis on the opposite shore. In winter, an ice bridge provides the connection.
The village has preserved its rural environment, attracting artists and craftspeople to settle here. It offers a variety of residential styles from the 18th and 19th centuries in stone and wood, as well as an eccentric building in Moorish style.).
